I just returned from a walking trip to England in October. One highlight was walking through a field of clover to Chastleton House in the Cotswolds and another was a visit to Berwick Church in Sussex.Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell, who were part of the Bloomsbury Group and who lived at Charleston Farmhouse, were asked to paint the walls during World War II.
In an effort to
make toy soldier collecting more interesting, a series of panels were painted
as background for the men in uniform.WindsorCastle is the framed piece with the
British ceremonial soldiers. The Tower of London
shows off more British soldiers and a painting of Shiloh
stands behind the Civil War Soldiers.
Ruthie Windsor Mann speaking at The Webb School of Knoxville
April 19, 2005
As a graduate of The Webb School of Knoxville, Ruthie Windsor
Mann was asked to speak in Chapel for the Dumont Symposium of the Arts. In the eighties Ruthie was the first artist to exhibit in the gallery at Webb.
At the Chez Zee Art Gallery in Austin, Texas, 18 artists were invited to participate in this special exhibition commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Ampersand Art Supply. All of the artwork in the show was created on one of Ampersand’s painting panels. The wide variety of styles, mediums and sizes in the exhibition help demonstrate the dynamic nature of the artists and the painting panel they are using. For more information about the artists below, click on the artists name to be directed to their personal website.
